Coffee Spot: Mellow Cup Cafe

Penang is a food paradise, people always said that. Yes indeed.  However it ain’t easy to find a good coffee in all the café. Cafes grew rapidly in Penang for the past few years and is still growing, but not all of them serve the best coffee! Last weekend I came across by chance to visit the Mellow Cup Café. Located along Jalan Gottlieb,Penang, this cozy little café work well as a spot for gathering as well as grabbing a coffee. I wouldn’t consider myself an expert on food review, but I’ll do my best to share you my best opinion, in the hope that one day I’ll be blogging more about food.

The café is brightly decorated with artwork on the wall, and simply yet modern furniture is open from 10am-11pm daily.

Coffee machine and dripper

There is something special about Mellow Cup. The café serves coffee by using Moses Chan Coffee bean, from Blooms Roastery & craft tea imported from Hong Kong. Mellow cup offers customers the signature Iced Drip Coffee which using Panama Don-K Kotowa Coffee bean, all served in a glass bottle. Well I am not a coffee enthusiast but I love the taste which the coffee has a sweet-subtle flavor!

Iced drip coffee

Besides that, they have another iced coffee for your option- Tiramisu Signature to help keep one refreshed especially on a hot day. This is one of my favorite among all. It is truly one of a kind place which serves perfectly brewed coffee, and not forget to mention the top seller as well – The full immersion coffee which using Ethiopia Sidamo Hunkute coffee bean. For that aromatic cup of coffee, Mellow Cup uses manual brewing and the pour-over dripper, that explains the countdown timer was places on top the jar. You’ll have to wait for 2 minutes.

#Grilled Salmon with Japanese Hot Spring Egg

The meal started off with the Grilled Salmon with Japanese Hot Spring Egg. The salmon was served laid on mashed potato with some salad, it gets more and more addictive after each bite!

BBQ Chicken Skewer

BBQ Chicken Skewer at RM17.80, the taste of chicken marinated with bbq sauce was very tender and juicy!

 Seafood Tomyam Spaghetti

Look at the huge prawns

Highly recommended this Seafood Tom Yam Spaghetti, a combination of spaghetti and Thai Tomyam sauce and prawns! It is a Thai fusion dish of sweet, spicy, zesty flavors that Yunice and I adore. Price at Rm20.80 only.

 Chocolate Egg Yolk Lava Cake

What better way to welcome the weekend than having a good dessert? The chocolate melt goes fantastically well with the egg york. I love it! Overall, the good coffee with reasonable prices make this a perfect coffee spot.

Elmural Cafe @ Cintra Street

Advertorial:

Penang is a beautiful city with lots of hidden gems (cafes & tourism spot). And I really love to blog every cafe I'd been before, in the hope that one day my blog will be a great travel tips for those who travel to Penang. So this time was my second visit to Elmural Cafe.

What is Elmural Cafe?
Elmural is a cozy cafe showcasing street arts around Malaysia. They offer delicious fusion French cuisine, homemade desserts and Gelato at affordable price.

The French Entremet

Well I am aware that I suppose to introduce dessert at the end but I just cant wait!! This is a sweet little bakery from Elmural, perfect for your afternoon tea. French pastries are the best as far as I am concerned. It is a multi layered mousse cake with complementary various flavor and varying textual contrast. What made it so special is, it is not sponge cake as every layer is made from quality ingredients.

Veloute Soup

Veloute Soup for my starter, the soup is pretty damn good as well. A smooth and creamy soup of French origin, it is made from the blend of 6 vegetables enjoyed by the French since 19th century. I am so craving just writing about it.

SALADDDDD!

Next up was a salad served on a long plate, the fresh green and light dressing made this a very healthy start to the meal. For my food partner, Eugene he seems to love it.

Coq Au Vin

Now this one is my favorite dish of the day. It is a traditinal French dish of braised chicken served with authentic red wine sauce and homemade creamy mash potato. The chef himself really did a great job in this, simple yet it explodes with flavor. Yummy!!!

Oinker Daube

A classic French Provencal dish of tender wild boar meat stewed in red wine and served with Provencal herbs vegetables and garlic. And the meat are surprisingly juicy and tender, really enjoyed the potatoes and carrots as they are all my favorite toooooo!

 Gelato

Its never too full for ice cream, the homade Italian ice cream which is available in assorted flavors. I've ordered a green tea and a Chocolate Chilly for Eugene. It was very nice and I just go on eating and eating until I finished up everything. A lovely end to the meal indeed.

So father's day is just around the corner. In case you're looking for somewhere for a family dinner, however do arrange with them well in advance

Zest Bar Cafe @ Glow Hotel Penang

Advertorial:

Hello can you believe its going to be June in 3 days more? My favorite month which I can celebrate my birthday and Father's day in one shot lolll. So anyway I've discovered a new hidden cafe in Hotel Glow @ Penang. There's a lot of coffee shops around but I love having lunch in hotel as there's private car park for guests, apparently I am a fast easy person :C

This is the lobby, so comfortableeeeeee.

The best shot I've gotten so far.

Its a moment of real pleasure when the girls came along with me

A little background about Glow Hotel:
Glow by Zinc is a hotel that provide comfortable environment for modern travelers at a value price point. Glow Hotel offers stylish and smartly functional rooms, most importantly they are furnished with air conditioning,Wi-Fi internet access, and a 32 inch LCD Satellite TV.

Zest Bar Cafe?
A contemporary cafe serving a selection of delectable Thai fusion dishes. For those who seeking pleasure with food and refreshing drinks, here you should go.

So let's take a tour
Zest Bar Cafe
(seats up to 100pax)

I love how those arts add so much vibrance to the hotel, not like the usual boring banquet space that I used to go.

Lobby Common Area

Pool Bar, where you can enjoy cocktails, frappes and ice blended drinks

The pool at the first floor, this place is insanely relaxing

The marketing manager Dexter gave us a quick tour around the hotel to show us their facilities. I love hotel like this because they feel a lot more personal and cosy, great for relaxing vacation with friends and family.

We took a whole bunch of photos at the bar while waiting for food.

She is always a baby girl to me, Rui Wen

And my dearest, Eliza!

With my girls, they're beyond adorable!

Okay I hope you're not hungry. I am moving on to food now hahaha. The food selection here is enormous #nomnom. I am totally a fan of Thai food, their set lunch was really great. Totally filled my tummy and satisfied my taste buds.

Tom Yam Goong RM19
(Fresh Prawn in Spicy Tom Yam Soup)

We were first introduced to their signature dish, Tom Yam Goong. The tomyam soup is no joke spicy, my fav all the time.

Yam Moon Sen RM13
(Glass noodle salad with prawn, ginger flower, and lime leaf)

The glass noodle salad wasn't really my thing though, but it is healthy so I've ordered for my girls. HAHAHAHA. How thoughtful am I? #BFFNO1. The glass noodle were quite springy but not greasy.

Pad Kra Prao RM19
(Sauteed spicy minced chicken or beef with Thai Kra Prao leaf)

You're free to choose chicken or beef, but I opted for the usual Pad Kra Prao that comes with minced chicken. The chicken were so soft and tender, you can really taste it when you bite into each mouth, it was simply delicious!!

Kaeng Phet RM19
(Spicy red curry & vegetables, choice of prawn and chicken)

Khao Phad RM16
(Pineapple fried rice with seafood and cashew nuts)

Pineapple fried rice for Eliza, it comes in a slightly larger portion with some big prawns added. The overall flavor was okay,it would be perfect if they are able to make a smaller portion.

Spaghetti Olio Aglio RM23.50

Ruiwen ordered the western food.  The Aglio Olio is served with garlic bread, fresh prawn and topped with some chili flakes. It tasted creamy and cheesy,  I cant stop eating her food without asking permission that's what bff normally do.

Khanom Khao Mao RM7.50
(Fried Bananas with grated coconut and sticky rice)

Dessert time!!! The staff was efficient in serving us the next course. Khanom Khao Mao was basically fried banana served on the pandan leaf and completed with sticky rice.It tasted surprisingly good together with the grated coconut, even though I was very full but I still managed to finish it.

Phon Lamai Sod Tam Rue Du Karn RM8.50
(Sesonal fresh fruit)

Thank you so much Glow Hotel for inviting us! We truly enjoyed our time there and it was really a pleasant experience. I am happy because I just found a new spot for lunch next time. I'll be back soon. So guys, if you're keen in having a vacation stay in Glow hotel or dine in Zest Bar Cafe, you can find the information in http://www.glowhotel-penang.com
